IRVINGTON, N.Y. Irvington High School Principal Scott Mosenthal will retire from his post next year, the school district announced Thursday.
Mosenthal has been principal for the past 14 years and started teaching in the Irvington School District in 1975.
It would seem hard to imagine Irvington High School without Dr. Mosenthal, Interim Schools Superintendent Robert Roelle said in a statement. He has practiced a student first philosophy that is felt throughout the school. His institutional history of the high school and the entire school district has been a tremendous resource for several superintendents.
Mosenthal's retirement is effective July 1, 2013. The Board of Education is expected to approve the retirement in a special meeting Friday at 7 a.m. in the District Office.
The school district noted Mosenthal's tenure included a doubling in enrollment and increases in the number of advanced placement classes.
The recruitment of the next high school principal (only the third in the past forty years) will be a top priority of the next superintendent, Dr. Kristopher Harrison, and the Board of Education during the up-coming new school year, the district said. Plans regarding the recruitment process will likely be shared by Dr. Harrison after the start of the 2012-13 school year.
Harrison will take over as superintendent on July 1.
