HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N.Y. -- Gyvonne E. "Vonnie" Allen, a resident of Hopewell Junction, died Thursday, Dec. 24 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 90.
Daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Wineholt Krebs, she was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Glen Rock, Pa. She attended Temple University, where she met her future husband, Lowell "Bud" Allen, at a dance. She married Bud Oct. 12, 1946.
Allen worked as an executive secretary at the Philadelphia Electric Company before she had children. When her children were younger, she was a Girl Scout leader and a Sunday School teacher.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail E. Allen of Stamford, Conn. and her fiancé, Mark W. O'Brien; her son, Brian G. Allen and his wife, Lenore and their daughters, Erica, Emily and Ava of Hopewell Junction; her sister, Norma McCullough and her deceased husband, George and their son, Greg and his wife, Marsha and their son, Gregg of Pennsylvania; as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law in Maine.
Family will receive their friends from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls. A memorial service will be conducted at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
