SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. Contractors should not be storing gas line equipment on a neighborhood street in Sleepy Hollow, village officials said.
Storing it on the street is unacceptable, Mayor Ken Wray said.
Consolidated Edison is replacing gas lines throughout the Philipse Manor and Sleepy Hollow Manor neighborhoods. The work includes digging into public streets to replace the main gas line with a plastic gas main and updating gas lines to each house. Crews are working in sections and slowly working their way north.
However, homeowners and trustees have voiced several concerns with the project.
Trustee Bruce Campbell noted during a recent village board meeting that an area of DeVries Avenue near DeVries Park has been used to store equipment related to the project.
Con Edison has taken over that area of DeVries, he said.
Public Works foreman Richard Gross said the village had previously told contractors they could not put a trailer and portable toilet on the street.
Wray said the village and residents had also been having problems with the crews doing the actual work.
Con Edison employees have been good and at least civil, Wray said. We can't say the same thing about the contractors. I have reached out to Con Edison's governmental relations person to explain our frustration and irritation.
Con Edison spokesperson Allan Drury said the untility would look into the situation.
"We will get back in touch with Village officials to discuss the placement of our equipment and work through any misunderstanding that may have occurred," he said in a statement.
Crews need to find another place to store their equipment and supplies, Wray said.
I think what's acceptable, given their work, is someone brings in the equipment or parts that they need to use for that stretch of street for that day, he said. It's the same thing anyone else would do.
