Irvington police received a call around 12:15 p.m., alerting them to a possible shooter at the high school. School officials immediately coordinated a lockdown of the high-middle school campus and put Dows Lane Elementary and Main Street School in lockout mode, prohibiting visitors from entering the building.

Superintendent Kristopher Harrison said it became apparent after Irvington, Tarrytown and Dobbs Ferry police searched the campus that there was no threat—and an initial investigation reveals the call was most intended for an Irvington High School in New Jersey, which was “engaged in a situation at the time this report was received.”

“I want to assure everyone that at no time was student safety at risk,” Harrison said in a note to parents. “Also, I want to thank all law enforcement agencies for their support and assistance. We must also commend our students and staff for their patience and cooperation during this anxious time.”

Harrison encouraged parents to discuss the seriousness of Tuesday's events with students and address any concerns they have, adding that school officials are available if assistance is needed.

“This situation highlights the importance of our regular emergency drills and our dedication to school safety,” he said. “We in Irvington remain focused on providing the safest environment for our children to grow and learn.”
