Tarrytown Fire Department Elects Kelly Murphy As First Female Chief

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- The Tarrytown Fire Department will be led by a woman for the first time in its 139-year history.

Kelly Murphy, a volunteer with the Tarrytown Fire Department for the past 12 years, has been elected as the organization's chief.

Murphy, 38, is a lifelong village resident and a graduate of Sleepy Hollow High School, according to lohud.com.

As the 150 members of the fire department prepared to elect her on Friday, she said she felt honored that here peers had such faith in her abilities, according to lohud.com.
