Sleepy Hollow Firefighter Arraigned for Arson

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. - A volunteer firefighter was arraigned Wednesday on charges that he started two fires, including one that left 19 people without a home.

Trent Bronner is charged with five felonies:  two counts of second-degree arson, one count of second-degree criminal mischief, one count of first-degree reckless endangerment and one count of fourth-degree arson, according to the Westchester County District Attorney’s office,.

Bronner is also charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, which is a misdemeanor charge.

If convicted, Bronner faces a maximum of 25 years in state prison on the top count.

Bronner, 22, is accused of starting two fires in Sleepy Hollow, one in March and one in July 2010. He was arrested April 27 by Sleepy Hollow Police.

A  fire on Cedar Street Mach 20 left 19 people homeless. Around 5 a.m., a woman woke up to discover that the house at 13 Cedar Street, located across the street from her house, was on fire. The fire spread to 19 Cedar Street, which sits a few feet away. Both houses were condemned.

According to the District Attorney’s office, the fire “was immediately deemed suspicious. The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team determined that the fire was intentionally set and originated under the porch of 13 Cedar Street.”

Bronner’s attorney Carolyn Minter did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Sleepy Hollow Fire Chief John Korzelius was also unavailable for comment.

During the investigation, the District Attorney’s office said, Bronner admitted to setting another fire July 19, 2010 at 128 Cortlandt Street.

Bronner will be in court again on September 28, 2011. He is currently still in the County Jail. The County's website lists his bail at $150,000.
