Sleepy Hollow Senior Honored For Service

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – The Westchester County Senior Hall of Fame now has 43 new inductees, including three from the Tarrytown area.

“They are truly role models, whose spirit and outreach to others enhances our quality of life,” said Mae Carpenter, the Department of Senior Programs and Services commissioner. “Their positive, can-do attitude and community service is an example for people of all ages.”

Among those honored are Tarrytown resident Robert F. Patterson and Irvington resident Claire Mastroianni. Sleepy Hollow resident Armando “Chick” Galella received special recognition for his work. Galella, a Pearl Harbor survivor, has used his experience to educate social studies classes and instill good citizenship.

The Senior Hall of Fame was established in 1982 to recognize and thank seniors for their work. It is sponsored by the Westchester County DSPS, the Westchester County Parks, the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services and the Visiting Nurse Services in Westchester and Putnam.

More than 900 seniors have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since it began. Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said the Hall of Fame was a chance to showcase seniors' achievements that have enhanced community life.

“The county has benefited greatly from their years of service and they continue to inspire us,” he said.
