TARRYTOWN, N.Y. - Georgianna A. Brooks, formerly of Tarrytown, died March 21. She was 85.
Born in Tarrytown on April 9, 1926, she was the daughter of William and Margaret Reichert McLaughlin. Brooks was a 1943 graduate of North Tarrytown High School. On Oct. 15, 1949, she married Charles F. Brooks in St. Teresa of Avila Church. He predeceased her on May 20, 2006.
Brooks worked as a secretary for the Lakeland Central School District in Yorktown for 18 years. Prior to that, she worked as a secretary at Marymount College in Tarrytown.
She led a simple life and enjoyed bingo and solitaire in her later years. Cooking and decorating her home were some of her favorite activities. A former resident of Ormand Beach, Fla., she was a member of the Red Hat Society and she also volunteered at the local hospital.
Brooks is survived by her son Charles J. (Pamela) of Valrico, Fla., her daughter Barbara A. (Stephen) Haan of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., as well as five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers William and John McLaughlin.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown on Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Transfiguration Church in Tarrytown. Interment will follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
