The goal: get as many votes as possible. “We want each chef to put their best foot forward,” Eric Korn said. Korn is the executive chef at Good-Life Gourmet in Irvington. He organized the event and will also compete.

“Each chef will put out a tasting appetizer course and a tasting entree course for every guest. Desserts will be set up as a station so that guests get up and enjoy dessert and vote,” Korn explained.

The Golden Knives Challenge will take place May 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 22 an 23. Tickets are $50 and available by calling 914-747-0519 or emailing events@cappacrucy.com.

Competing in the week-long competition is Alex Sze from Juniper in Hastings, Navjot Arora from Chutney Masala in Irvington, Carl Van Dekker from The Village Dog in Tarrytown, Sean Corcoran from the Peekskill Brewery in Peekskill, Korn, and Diane Forley and Michael Otsuka from the Flourish Baking Company in Scarsdale.

The competition begins Tuesday at The Lodge of Hudson Harbor in Tarrytown, which has been transformed into a classic dining room. Chefs will be competing for a monetary prize based on ticket sales, as well as the golden knives trophy. Each night will feature two chefs squaring off against each other, with diners choosing the winning chef.

The initial challengers will be Juniper and The Village Dog on Tuesday, Chutney Masala and the Flourish Baking Company on Wednesday, and Good-Life and the Peekskill Brewery on Thursday.

Korn decided to include local chef friends after a series of pop-up restaurants through Westchester.

“Of course we are competitors in the real world, but we need to support each other too,” he said. “Working together on this community-driven event will bring us closer to our  guests, and I hope it will draw attention to the great culinary talent we have here in lower Westchester.”
