“I came down and someone told me the boat had left the marina,” he said. “I thought it was a joke.”
Signs of Hurricane Sandy still lingered at the Washington Irving Boat Club in Tarrytown on Saturday afternoon, where boats that had floated out of the marina and into Losee Park remained stranded. A crew from Stiloski's Towing was on hand, righting boats with a crane.
Boat Club manager Kenny Fiala was present Saturday, watching the crane work and fixing a tractor on the site. Fiala said about a dozen boats were damaged by the storm, and the Sunset Cove restaurant got about four feet of flood damage. The restaurant reopened last week.
Fiala could not estimate the extent of the damage.
Corry's boat is one still stuck in the ground in the parking lot south of Losee Park. Another boat, The Wanderer, remained stuck in the parking lot parallel to the Metro North railroad tracks.
Corry figures his boat came loose from its spot near the boat club's entrance and made a few left turns, floating until it got stuck in the parking lot. He said his boat cost about $150,000 when it was brand new in 2000, but he didn't know how much it was worth before Sandy.
Corry's hoping a crane will be able to pull the boat out Sunday so he can survey the damage.
“The plug was out so it must have floated sunk all the way over there with water filling up the back, so I don't know the extent of the damage, but the propulsion system and the out-driver is into the ground right now,” he said.
