Andie Regan and Emily Lapine are the founders of Karma Cookies.
These two juniors were working on a Romeo and Juliet project for their English class and after finishing the literary portion of the project, they decided that it needed a "wow" factor, so they headed into Andie's bakery (As a result of Andie’s love and interest for baking, her parents built her a commercial grade bakery in her home as a gift) and carefully crafted castle shaped cookies, along with Romeo and Juliet shaped cookies.
The girls said they both have had business-driven minds, so while others may have just seen cookies "we saw a great opportunity."
They spent countless hours and days brainstorming ideas, names and logos before settling on the name Karma Cookies.
There is a saying at Karma Cookies, “the possibilities are endless."
Both Regan and Lapine believe that their cookies allow them to express their creativity, and make their customer's ideas a reality.
"Andie has always had a profound love for all types of baking which combined with my entrepreneurial mind, influenced us to start a company in the baking field," said Lapine.
Karma Cookie's first clients were mainly family members who were supporting the recently founded business.
"Our very first order came from my mom who wanted to bring cookies to a meeting in June of 2013," Lapine said. "We created cookies in the shape of vegetables such as carrots, broccoli, eggplants and tomatoes."
Karma Cookies are $30 per dozen, or $2.50 per cookie (a very competitive price in the marketplace for this type of personalized cookie). The minimum order is six cookies and orders go up in increments of six cookies.
"Because Karma Cookies is such a hands on business, it would be very difficult to continue building the company through college. We would love to make cookies for people when we come home, and you never know what possibilities exist in our future!" said Regan and Lapine.
