Duo Stole Over 100 Tires, Rims From Vehicles Across Suffolk County, DA Says
Two Long Island men are facing dozens of charges after allegedly stealing tires and rims from over 100 vehicles.
Randy Woods, age 37, of Wyandanch and Dwayne Jones, age 45 of Central Islip are named in a 190-count indictment announced by the Suffolk County DA’s office on Wednesday, May 8.
According to investigators, the pair targeted residents, car dealerships, and rental car companies across Suffolk County between July 2022 and October 2023.
In all, they stole tires and rims from 114 vehicles, leaving nearly $500,000 in property damage in their wake, prosecutors allege.

Wyandanch Dirt Biker Rider Charged With Reckless Driving
A Long Island man was charged with reckless driving after police spotted him allegedly running red lights, speeding, and driving on the opposite side of traffic.
Talique Carter, age 34, of Wyandanch, was arrested around 7:15 p.m., Thursday, April 18, in Wyandanch.
According to Suffolk County Police, officers on patrol watched as Carter, driving an X-Pro Dirt Bike, drove recklessly at a high rate of speed on Mount Avenue.
Officers said Carter was driving on the opposite side of traffic and disobeying multiple traffic control devices.

Carlos Sanchez-Benitez, age 44, of Wyandanch, was arraigned on nearly a dozen charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide, in Suffolk County on Thursday, Oct. 5.

Duo Nabbed For Neglecting 19 Puppies In Car In Wyandanch, Police Say
Two men were caught on Long Island with over a dozen puppies shoved into just two crates, along with guns and a 2-year-old, police said.
On Friday, Sept. 1 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Suffolk County Police saw the car, a 2022 Jeep Compass, in the parking lot of 301 Merritt Avenue in Wyandanch.
Inside were 19 pit bull puppies in two crates. The puppies were covered in feces and did not have sufficient food and water, air, or shelter, police said.

Joseph Johnson, age 33, of Wyandanch, pleaded guilty to first-degree rape in Suffolk County Court on Friday, July 28.
According to prosecutors, Johnson admitted to breaking into the victim’s Wyandanch home on Sept. 19, 2020. He then raped the woman before stealing cash and fleeing.

A Long Island convenience store was shut down and a clerk was arrested after he allegedly sold e-cigarettes to a minor.
The arrest took place in Wyandanch around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Alex Convenience Store, at 301G Merritt Ave.
In response to community complaints, Suffolk County Police conducted an investigation into the sale of e-cigarettes to minors at the store.

Funding For ShotSpotter Detection System Approved In Suffolk County After Increase In Shootings
Following a significant increase in shootings, the Suffolk County Legislature has approved funding to restore the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system.
The Legislature approved the funding on Tuesday, Oct. 11, for the technology that was discontinued in 2019, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced.
According to the DA's Office, shooting incidents doubled from 2020 to 2021, after the ShotSpotter program was discontinued.
