SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- Sleepy Hollow High School Senior Spencer Sands won’t be able to attend his high school graduation next week, but was honored in a special and intimate ceremony with school officials after learning that his rowing team would be headed to Portland, to be selected for a world rowing team.
Sanders competes with RowAmerica Rye, a rowing club with team members from throughout the region. Competing last week, Sands’ team won the US Rowing Youth National Championships and is headed to Portland’s selection camp.
There, the rowers will learn if they’ve qualified for the World Championships, which will be held in August in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Sands is headed to Princeton University after graduation.
