Loeb lost to 4th seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0 in the first round.

"It was a dream come true," Loeb, who recently announced she was turning pro, said. " It was surreal making my way on the court and looking up into crowd. I hope to be back playing on Arthur Ashe many more times, but with a different outcome."

Loeb said learned a lot from the match and is proud of how she competed.

"I thought I did well for it being my first time playing on the biggest tennis stage in the world against a well-experienced player," Loeb said. "I could have executed better, but I set up the points the way I wanted to. I learned a lot from this match and am proud of how I competed.

Playing against Wozniacki was "amazing," Loeb said.

"She’s a great competitor and very down to earth. I want to incorporate some aspects of her game into mine such as her footwork and anticipation," Loeb said.

The big story out of the US Open was Serena Williams' quest for a Grand Slam ending against unseeded Roberta Vinci. Loeb said she was shocked but she gives a lot of credit to Vinci for the upset.

"It gives confidence for other players, such as myself, that anything can happen on any given day," Loeb said. "Serena is a great champion and has definitely proved that, so this one loss does not define how accomplished she is."

Loeb won the NCAA Women's Singles Tennis National Championship during her time at the University of North Carolina. She was named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.

The tennis star grew up playing at Ryder Park and was on the Ossining High School tennis team.
