Lakeland Field Hockey Rolls To Fifth Straight State Title

SHRUB OAK, N.Y. – When it comes to New York state championship rings, the Lakeland High School field hockey team just got one for the thumb.

The unbeaten Hornets won their fifth straight state title by beating Brighton High School of Rochester 7-0 in the Class B title game Sunday at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.

Dana Bozek had three goals for the Hornets, who took a 3-0 lead at the half.

Lakeland ends the season at 22-0.

Lakeland advanced to the final with a 4-1 win over Section 4 champ Vestal (16-2) in the state semifinals on Saturday. Steph Scala led the way with two goals.
