Jimenez A Big Catch On Sleepy Hollow Football

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- The first time Sleepy Hollow’s Edwin Jimenez lined up as the slot receiver against Hendrick Hudson Saturday, the senior was psyched.

“When we were watching how they ran their defense on film, we were looking at areas we could exploit,” Jimenez said. “We saw that their safeties played pretty deep and they lined up a safety on a slot receiver so we felt we had a little advantage.”

Jimenez capitalized on it, catching four passes for 43 yards, including a touchdown, in Sleepy Hollow’s 38-3 dismantling of Hen Hud in a Section 1 Class A football game.

It was a season-high in catches for Jimenez, who has just one catch last week against John Jay-Cross River. Jimenez, along with fellow receivers, Steven Bencosme and Dionel Infante, can break a big play any time they have the ball. Jimenez can get overlooked by opposing defenses because teams focus on Bencosme and Infante.

“It felt great knowing that coach has confidence,” said Jimenez of Sleepy Hollow coach Steve Borys. “Coach knows that we have more than one playmaker on the field and when Devin puts it in the air, one of us is going to come down with it.

Jimenez has been waiting for an opportunity to demonstrate his big-play ability and it showed on his 25-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter.

Quarterback Devin Lopez lofted a pass toward the right sideline. Jimenez leaped and made the adjustment in mid-air, reaching back toward his left shoulder to snare the ball. When Jimenez came down, his back was to the sideline, but he managed to keep both feet in.

“I was originally going to the back corner of the end zone,” Jimenez said of his catch. “When the ball was in the air, I could see it was going to be a back-shoulder catch. It was a great pass by Devin and when I came down with it, I was so excited because it was my first touchdown of the season.”

Infante felt the same way for his good friend and teammate.

“He has great hands and I was happy for him,” Infante said.
