Irvington wanted to test itself against the big boys and when the Patriot Wrestling Tournament was over, the small-school Bulldogs more than held their own against the large schools.
Irvington finished seventh among the 12 teams competing, led by 145-pound finalist Brett Pastore, who went 5-1 for the tournament. Last year, the Bulldogs finished last in the 12-team field.
Justin Jimenez went 4-2 and placed fourth in the 113-pound weight class. Anthony DiNardo (285), Drew Cohen (138), Andrew Wassman (132), and Nick DArrigo (120) all went 3-3.
The guys wrestled well in a very difficult two-day tournament with a number of large schools from Section 1 and Section 9, Irvington coach Steve Aufiero said.
