Irvington Girls Capture State Federation Basketball Title

IRVINGTON, N.Y. - Irvington's fantastic four-year run of girls basketball dominance continued Sunday when the Lady Bulldogs defeated Cardinal O'Hara 65-48 to win another New York State Federation Class B Tournament in upstate Albany.

The Bulldogs, who won their fourth straight New York Public Schools championship last weekend, are now the overall champions after winning the Federation title for the third time in four years.

The Federation Tournament includes teams from New York City parochial and public school leagues.

Irvington coach Gina Maher's Bulldogs gave a stunning 106-6 record over the last four seasons.

Lexi Martins, who has been a Bulldog with Maher for all four state and three of the last four Federation titles, had 21 points and 17 rebounds.

Backcourt leader Brittni Lai, who has been a key player after moving to Irvington three years ago added 15 points.

Cardinal O'Hara represented the Catholic High Schools Athletic Association.

Irvington led 40-32 at halftime and then raced away in the third and fourth quarters to complete the state sweep.

Lauren Chafizadeh and Ryan McMahon scored 10 points apiece.
