IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- Alyssa DiCampli and Lexi Martins each made clutch free throws in the final minute Friday as the Irvington girls basketball team held on for a 55-53 victory over Oneonta in the New York State Public Schools Class B semifinals at Hudson Valley Community College in upstate Troy.
The three-time defending Class B state champion Bulldogs (22-2) will face either Section 5’s Waterloo (22-1) or Section 10’s Salmon River (19-4) in the state championship game Saturday at 4 p.m.
Irvington trailed 12-8 before tying game at 12-12 after one quarter, then raced past Oneonta with a 15-4 second-quarter run fueled by Brittni Lai's 13 points. Martins had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the first half as the Bulldogs took a 27-16 halftime lead.
Lai led Irvington with 20 points and Martins added 18 points and 21 rebounds.
Up 41-38 after Oneonta's 22-14 comeback run in the third quarter, the Bulldogs held on for the win. Laurilyn Gelardi had two key baskets in the fourth quarter for the Bulldogs.
