IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- The Irvington varsity football team burst on the scene in 2011 under the leadership of first-year coach Mike Oliva.
The Bulldogs won seven consecutive games after losing their season-opener. They reached the semifinals of the Section 1 Class B Football Championships and won a bowl game.
Irvington is prepared to prove that last year was just the beginning of good things for the program. The Bulldogs open the 2012 season at 3 p.m. Saturday, hosting Edgemont.
Edgemont has been rejuvenated under the guidance of current head coach and former Edgemont great, Matt Bernstein.
We know Edgemont is going to be ready to play, Oliva said. They are well-coached and well-prepared. We need to come out tomorrow and play smart, sound, emotional football if we want to get the win. It should be a great game.
