Irvington Fall Teams Get Off To Fast Start

IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- Irvington High School's fall teams, including the boys cross-country team with a record of 6-0, have been earning wins and accomplishments throughout the beginning of the fall season.

A rundown of each team and accomplishments is below.

The boys cross-country team has earned a Class C ranking of No. 18 in New York state. In addition to the team’s undefeated dual-meet record, the team placed third at the Washingtonville Wizard Invitational and The Gressler Invitational in White Plains as well as fourth at the Somers Big Red Invitational. Alex Brandt and Scottie Mitchell have led the way for the varsity with wins in the dual meet races and top 10 finishes in the invitationals. 

The football team defeated Briarcliff 19-7 on Sunday, Sept. 28. Victor Rodriquez and Dillon Morley scofred touchdowns. Carson Cerrito had an interception return for a touchdown. The teams faces Nanuet on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 4 p.m. on Meszaros Field.

The girls soccer team improved to 6-2 with two wins over Dobbs Ferry to go along with victories over Keio, Hastings, Rye Neck and Blind Brook. Amanda Drath has led the team in scoring, and Sarina Stein has led the defense. The boys soccer team won the Teammates Tournament with a 4-1 victory over Briarcliff last weekend. Matt Casadei was named the tournament most valuable player. The team is currently ranked No. 14 in New York state Class B rankings.

Irvington's varsity volleyball team had a strong showing, finishing fourth out of 12 teams in the Sleepy Hollow tournament, and has already earned four wins. Corina Picon was named to the All-Tournament team. Roxy Trama and Abby Kingsberg are also leaders on the team.

The girls tennis team is off to a 5-2 start, with wins over Dobbs Ferry, Croton-Harmon, Woodlands, Westlake and Solomon Schechter.
