Gorton Trips Sleepy Hollow in Holiday Tournament

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – The Sleepy Hollow boys basketball team kept the game close for the first half Saturday before Gorton pulled away in the second half for a 55-36 victory to win the 20th Annual Sleepy Hollow Holiday Tournament at Sleepy Hollow High School.

Gorton (2-0) got 19 points from tournament Most Valuable Player Dane Williamson and had to beat their former coach Rob Rizzo, who moved over to coach Sleepy Hollow this fall. The Horsemen (1-1), who were playing without two starters, defeated Hackley 30-29 on a late basket by Ronniel Munoz Friday night in the opening round.

Tommy Fahey scored 10 points and also had six rebounds and was named to the all-tournament team along with Munoz.

David Slater and Rashan McKay each had 12 points for Gorton, which outscored the Horsemen 18-4 in the fourth quarter to run away with the game.

Hackley outlasted Lincoln Hall 46-40 in the tournament’s consolation game as Michael Curland and Max Paruda each scored 12 points for Hackley. Dequan Hall had 12 points for the Lincoln Hall.
