Hochul is on a statewide tour which focuses on the Governor’s proposed “Enough is Enough” legislation introduced in March.

She was joined by Pace University’s Interim Dean for Students Rachel Carpenter, Student Government Association President and Junior Daniel Garcia, Pace Chronicle Editor and Senior Emily Wolfrum, Residence Hall Director and Graduate Student Tiffany Bermudez and Pace University Title IX Coordinator/Affirmative Action Officer Lisa Miles.

“I am here today to tell survivors of sexual assault, you are not alone.  No student should have to fear sexual assault on campus,” said Lowey. "I look forward to hearing from the students and administrators here at Pace so we can discuss not only how to make our colleges and universities a safe place for learning, but also how New York can be a national model.”

Pace University has been addressing the issue of sexual assault on college campuses by assessing definitions, updating its campus-wide Sex-Based Policy and Procedure, reviewing response protocols, and developing resources to promote awareness about sexual assault prevention and the range of support services available to victims of sexual assault and other crimes.

“Pace University has become a true leader on this issue when other colleges around the State are reluctant to talk,” said Hochul.

Carpenter discussed the importance of the issue.

“This is an important conversation that must take place on all college campuses nationwide,” stated Carpenter. “It is something that, as a student affairs professional, absolutely depends on the input of diverse campus teams, especially our students.”

Garcia commented on being united on combating sexual assault on campuses.

“As president of the student body I believe it’s important that we remain united on this issue,” he said. "It doesn’t just affect the victim and the aggressor, it effects the whole Pace community."

Pace’s efforts include the development of an updated campus-wide sexual assault policy; agreement on a revised definition of consent; launch of a sexual assault resources website; and the creation and distribution of a Guide to Options, Resources, and Support.
