IRVINGTON, N.Y. Irvington High School seniors Suyash Bhatt and Monica Driscoll have been honored as National Merit Semifinalists, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced Wednesday.
These are capable, well-balanced kids with bright futures, Irvington High School Principal Scott Mosenthal said in a news release. They are both good readers, intellectually curious, and have good test-taking skills. They approach testing with the attitude that I can do this, and that can make a difference.
Driscoll and Bhatt are two of 16,000 semifinalists in the nation who will compete to become a National Merit Finalist in February. Finalists compete for one of 8,300 National Merit Scholarships that are offered in the spring. About 90 percent of semifinalists attain finalist standing and more than half win a scholarship, The National Merit Scholarship Corporation said .
