Kristopher Harrison, a New Jersey educator and former superintendent of the Mendham Township School District, accepted the top job in Irvington in February after school officials conducted an exhaustive search.

School board members officially welcomed Harrison at a Board of Education meeting in February and he took over in July, saying he looked forward to working with the rest of the community.

“We want to continue to raise the bar on (student) achievement, to make sure that we're preparing our children successfully for college and for the work force,” he said. “We want these school experiences to be meaningful and enriching and to make sure we're providing quality opportunities that reach every child regardless of what their interests or talents may be.”

Harrison's contract lasts until June 30, 2017.
