The vote is on despite the inclement weather.

Tarrytown residents vote at Washington Irving School, while Sleepy Hollow residents vote at Winfield L. Morse School.

District officials and community members have put together two bonds to address immediate needs.

Proposition One, which totals $8.05 million, would pay for a multi-purpose synthetic turf field at the high school, an elevator and lift system at Winfield Morse School, roof replacements, ventilation system upgrades, and other work.

Proposition Two, totaling $1.65 million, which will only be carried out if proposition one passes, would fund the installation of a turf field on the lower field at Washington Irving School.

District Athletic Director Chuck Scarpulla is an advocate of the turf playing fields.

"We believe that many schools have seen that turf fields are a benefit in the long term," Scarpulla said. "Because we don't have enough fields for our needs, turf makes it possible for multi-use.

"The bonds plan uses $800,000 from district reserves and $70,000 in private donations, including a donation from the family of the late Howard Godwin, husband of Board of Education President Mimi Godwin, the district plans to borrow $8.84 million of 15 years, with an expected interest rate of about 4.5%.

If both bonds pass, residents can expect to pay an average of $3.75 to $18.43 per month, starting in the 2016-17 school year.
