TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – The 2013-14 state budget assigns schools in Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and Irvington more state aid than last year, with some districts getting more than 13 percent more in funds.

School aid totals $21.2 billion in the 2013-2014 budget recently passed by state legislators and signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. This is an increase of nearly $1 billion from last year.

State officials allocated $10,695,692 in state aid, including building aid, for the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns. Tarrytown is receiving 13.4 percent more in state aid than last year, amounting to $1,260,201 in additional funds.

The Irvington Union Free School District has been allocated $2,903,001 in state and building aid, 13.8 percent or $352,731 more than last year.

Officials have allocated the Pocantico Hills Central School District $958,418 in state and building aid, $51,324 or 5.7 percent more than last year.

These figures do not account for other education aid yet to be distributed, including $75 million in funding for new state initiatives . They include grants for extended learning time and funding to make pre-kindergarten full-time. Cuomo said the state would leave the decision of whether to extend pre-kindergarten to full-time to individual school districts, but would incentivize them to increase the time students spend in school by covering 100 percent of the cost of any additional school time.

Funding that has not yet been distributed makes up 37 percent of the year-to-year increase in education aid
