Energy-efficiency upgrades on 10 SUNY campuses state-wide will save New York nearly $80 million. The projects, funded by the New York Power Authority (NYPA), are reported to realize a reduction in peak energy use by approximately 3.6 megawatts.
That is enough energy to power 3,500 typical homes and will help to eliminate 21,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year.
State officials will join NYPA leaders and SUNY administrators as the governor’s office announces the energy-efficiency advances during a press conference at SUNY Purchase on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m.
Launched in late 2012, the Build Smart NY initiative seeks to reduce energy use at state-owned or managed facilities by 20 percent by the year 2020.
