SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. Sleepy Hollow Middle School has been nominated as a Green Ribbon School for its work in conserving energy, providing green learning spaces and educating students on environmental issues.
The recognition award is part of a larger effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about practices proven to result in improved student engagement, academic achievement, graduation rates, and workforce preparedness, as well as a government-wide aim to increase energy independence and economic security, a New York State Department of Education press release stated.
Educational Commissioner John B. King Jr. nominated three out of 26 New York schools applicants. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Educational. Sleepy Hollow Middle School was named along with Hampton Bays Middle School in Hampton Bays, N.Y., and Bethlehem Central Middle School in Delmar, N.Y.
Winners of the Green Ribbon Schools competition will be announced April 23.
