Events for parents:
- On March 2, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the library, parents are invited to drop in to meet support staff to learn more about school-wide and community services, gather contact information and view a student produced video identifying key people in our school.
Events for students:
- Friday, Feb. 26: Open Door will have a table outside the cafeteria with mental health information.
- March 2: "Spread the Word to End the Word Day" will be sponsored by Sleepy Hollow Academy for Disability Education. An overview of the purpose of the pledge drive to end the use of the "r" word and a brief documentary introducing the band FLAME, who all have disabilities before their performance.
- March 30: National trainers from Rachel’s Challenge will help kick off “Sleepy’s Challenge” through assemblies and training sessions to take an active role in celebrating diversity, building capacity for tolerance, resolving conflicts and preventing violence.
Events for both parents and students:
- March 9 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the auditorium, Mike Nerney, an expert on the brain and adolescent development will speak about the impact of digital technology on social behaviors, relationships and self-esteem with a focus on developing effective strategies for parenting teenagers immersed in social media.
- March 16 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the auditorium, community agencies My Sister’s Place and WJCS Young People Achieve will provide a presentation for parents on supporting adolescents in developing healthy relationships and dating abuse prevention.
- March 23 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the auditorium, Jeffrey Veatch, father of a talented student musician who tragically died in his sleep from an accidental drug overdose will present “A Message from Justin” emphasizing the importance of active parenting and preventing alcohol/substance abuse.
Throughout the month they will collect photos and notes that demonstrate the collective commitment.
