SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – School officials from the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns praised the conduct of football players, coaches and fans as Sleepy Hollow High School received an award for sportsmanship.
Section One Athletics recently recognized the high school for its inaugural sportsmanship award out of 29 schools in the Class A section. Superintendent Howard Smith said it was a nice reflection on the football team and the community.
“What factors into that is how the fans conduct themselves during the game and how the coaches conduct themselves,” he said, adding that it was great that the community stood out in such a way.
The Sleepy Hollow Horsemen made it to the Section 1 Class A championship before falling to Somers High School 42-13 in November.
School officials said the high school was cited for its chivalrous conduct, honorable play and community service, including clean-up efforts in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, as well as visits to a local nursing home.
