Proctors Theater Director To Lead Workshop In Tarrytown

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- The director of Proctors theater in Schenectady, N.Y., will lead workshops this summer at the fifth annual Institute for Cultural Entrepreneurship for Museum Leaders.

Philip Morris will lead the weeklong retreat kicking off on Monday, July 7, at the Pocantico Center of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in Tarrytown.

Founded in 2010, ICE assists museum professionals in creating and improving cultural organizations.

Morris is known for his expertise in what he calls “community entrepreneurship,” which brings millions to about 1,700 events held by Proctors. Timshel Purdum, a 2013 ICE participant, says four days of training is enough to influence those who aspire to Morris’ success. “Can you change an individual’s perspective on creativity and entrepreneurship in such a short period of time?” asked Purdum. “I’d say a resounding 'yes.'”

Proctors Theatre has grown in the last eight years due to Morris’ lead on the $40 million campaign that gave the facilities a new 3-D giant screen and a central heating and chilling plant that also serves four neighboring buildings. Visitors to Proctor Theatre can view music, theater, dance, films, community activities and Broadway shows.
