The school board recently approved several revisions to the calendar. The last day of school will now be June 24 instead of June 21. Students will have half-days on June 21 and 24.
The district remained closed for a week after Hurricane Sandy downed trees and knocked out power in the area. School officials re-opened classes only after clear road conditions allowed them to provide transportation.
The district will use April 30 as a superintendent's conference day to score state exams, which, Superintendent Valencia Douglas noted in a letter to parents, “effectively reduces the total number of days teachers are not teaching students because of having to be trained for and score State tests.”
The eighth-grade graduation ceremony is still scheduled to take place on June 19.
