Pocantico Hills Celebrates Fall With Harvest Fest

POCANTICO HILLS, N.Y. -- It's become an annual tradition at the Pocantico Hills School.

For the last 11 years, students, parents, and staff have participated in the weeklong event where vegetables are harvested, sorted and cleaned and then combined to make a soup which was enjoyed by the school last week.

Third and fourth graders picked organic carrots, squash, celery, beans, tomatoes, leafy greens and herbs from the Children's Garden at the Rockefeller Estate. that were washed, chopped and simmered into soup on site.

First and second graders harvested tomatoes and beans from the school garden while fifth graders used fresh herbs to bake bread in the to accompany the soup. The sixth grade picked fresh basil from the school-based garden to cook pesto.
