“A lot of boys come to us from around the world,’’ said Christine Smith, the school’s group director of admissions, marketing and technology. “We have students from China, Ghan, Korea, Mexico, from all around the world. The location is in the Midwest, but the students are global and international.”
Missouri Military is recruiting boys April 8 to 11 and April 14 at Doubletree Inn in Tarrytown. The school has 230 boys from nearly 10 countries with a reputation as one of the nation’s top military preparatory schools. It opened in 1889 in Mexico, Mo.
“It differs for different boys,’’ Smith said when asked what students enjoy about the school. “We have a lot of different things. “One of the biggest things they’ll take away from it is the camaraderie and experience that they get. Watching the alums come back, it’s like their second home.”
The school is about 90 minutes from St. Louis and offers athletics, Junior ROTC, band, drama, aviation, Boy Scouts and SCUBA diving, among other things.
Smith said the school is launching a Duke of Edinburgh Award next year that is similar to an Eagle Scout project for Boy Scouts, but is more encompassing. “It’s one thing you want find anywhere else,’’ Smith said. “With our military structure, our academics and the global aspect of the school, it can be a good fit for a lot of boys.”
