SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Student musicians from around the area will compete at Sleepy Hollow High School in the 10th annual JazzFest on April 12.

The competition includes nine high school student jazz ensembles competing before three well-known jazz musicians for the chance to perform in an evening concert. The top three bands will perform with a judge acting as a “guest soloist.”

“The program is sought a venue to showcase high school jazz ensembles talented musicians in an educational format,” Sleepy Hollow High School Music Department Chair Gail Persad said. “Each ensemble performs three pieces for the judges, who provide critical feedback, guidance, encouragement and techniques to think about when playing in the style of jazz. For the bands that are selected to perform in the evening concert, student musicians have the unique opportunity to play side-by-side with renowned professional jazz musicians in a performance setting.”

Bands from Sleepy Hollow, Hackley, Edgemont, Ardsley, Lakeland, Port Chester, Monroe-Woodbury, Mahopac and Harrison are participating. Musicians Andy Gravish, Scott Neuman and Scott Reeves will be judging this year.

The public concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Kusel Auditorium at Sleepy Hollow High School.

Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door for $10. Student tickets are $5.

The Foundation for the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns is sponsoring the event.
