The track and field are named after two Irvington sports legends, Harold Meszaros and Peter K. Oley, who were both instrumental in the success of the athletic program in the school district.

Their families were among dozens of people who attended the ceremony, and their sons, Steven Meszaros and Erik Oley, cut the green ribbon.

Irvington High School Principal David Cohen congratulated the Meszaros and Oley families and thanked Superintendent of Schools Kristopher Harrison, the Board of Education and community members for their hard work in making the field, track and new facilities a reality for the school community.

“It is amazing to have such incredible fields and facilities that our students will be able to utilize for many years to come,” Cohen said.

Community members also heard remarks from Harrison, Board of Education President Catherine Palmieri and Athletic Director Artie McCormack.

The officials expressed their gratitude to everyone who contributed to the development of the district’s vision for the new and improved facilities.
