Irvington Schools to Recommed Kor as New Assistant Superintendent

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – Irvington school officials are recommending Main Street School Principal Raina Kor be appointed the new Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Instruction and Human Resources.

Irvington school board members will hear the recommendation from Interim Superintendent Robert Roelle and incoming Superintendent Kristopher Harrison during its meeting at 7:30 p.m.Tuesday in the Campus Presentation Room at Irvington High School.

“Following an extensive search, it was evident that Dr. Kor’s experience as an educator and school leader has prepared her well to lead the district’s instructional program, while providing necessary oversight of human resources,” incoming Superintendent Kristopher Harrison said in a letter to faculty and staff Monday.

The Irvington school district has been paying Kor an additional stipend this year to handle curriculum issues, such as the new teacher evaluations and the Common Core standards, in addition to her duties at the Main Street School. Irvington school board members added an assistant superintendent position to the 2012-13 school budget.

Harrison said the district would initiate a search for an interim principal to serve as Kor's replacement following her promotion. Kor still will be on hand to provide guidance and assistance during the transition, Harrison said.

Kor's duties will include working with faculty and staff “to guide our instructional practices to meet every student and teacher’s needs through the implementation of a rigorous and enriching 21st century curriculum” as well as human resources, Harrison said.

“I am confident that Dr. Kor will provide outstanding leadership and will serve the broader school community well,” Harrison said.
