The Fields Project Committee, which has been examining potential upgrades to a baseline of field needs, will present its recommendations to the Board on March 10 at 7 p.m. in the high school Campus Presentation Room.
The committee’s report will be followed by two public meetings on March 13 and March 20 to allow for additional resident input on the prospective plan. Members of the public are encouraged to attend all meetings. Meetings will begin at 7 p.m. in the Campus Presentation Room.
“The committee is meeting at least twice a week for hours at a time,” said Superintendent Kris Harrison, who is also attending each meeting to facilitate the needs of the committee. “It is exhaustive work that will really help the Board to finalize the athletic field portion of the potential bond.”
The 10-member committee was formulated in January from a pool of 23 volunteers. To date, the committee has been meeting with the district’s architects and engineers, district administrators, grass and artificial turf professionals and related professionals in order to provide a substantive, community-based response to fulfill their charge.
The committee will respond to a set of questions that have been established by the administrative leadership of the district, including: exploring the pros and cons of grass playing surfaces versus artificial turf; consideration of the installation of lights on the play fields; examination of potential track upgrades beyond the anticipated replacement; and other enhancements as developed and discussed.
In addition to the Fields Project Committee, the Buildings and Grounds Committee of the Board of Education will also provide its recommendations to the full Board on March 13. This committee has been investigating district-wide facility needs, largely in the area of infrastructure (roofing, HVAC, etc.) for potential inclusion in a bond project.
