The students qualified for the state competition based on their performance at the Westchester regional competition held in March.

The competition, which took place in BASF’s Tarrytown division, featured a variety of rigorous and challenging chemistry and physics questions.

Sixth-grader Henry Demarest, seventh-grader Rishit Gupta, eighth-grader Aayushi Jha, seventh-grader Rishikesh Madabhushi, and seventh-grader Zachary Rosman prepared for the entrance exam, as well as the regional and state competitions by studying online tutorials prepared by the YBTC Challenge. They represented the middle school with great confidence and poise.

After a very exciting competition, Rishikesh finished as the second runner up (third in the state) and Henry the first runner up (second in the state).

“As a school, we are incredibly proud of all of our students who put in an incredible amount of effort and time to prepare for these competitions,” said Principal David Sottile. “We congratulate all of our students on their participation and success in this competition, and their truly magnificent level of performance.”
