The school will host its Parent-to-Parent: Thriving, Not Surviving the College Process event at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Campus Presentation Room. The annual event, in its seventh year, is organized by the school’s PTSA and open to parents of all high school students. Those in attendance will be engaged in dialogue to share their college process experiences and will explore a number of topics, including standardized testing, college visits and college applications and essays.
Other topics will include:
- Putting a list together.
- When to help, when to step aside.
- How to fund four expensive years (merit and need-based financial aid tips).
- Working with your guidance or an independent counselor.
- Early decision, early action, regular decision: how to know which is right for your family?

The second event, organized by the Irvington High School administration and guidance department, “Irvington University: Workshop Program,” will take place Monday, March 23, from 6-9 p.m. at the high school and is open to all high school families. Students and parents can learn about the college process from experts in the field.
The program will consist of multiple workshops.
Topics will include:
- College Admissions 101.
- Understanding the Financial Aid Process.
- An Overview of the SUNY and CUNY systems.
- The New SAT, SAT vs ACT, the Transition to College and more.
Workshops will be offered to support families in all stages of the process.
