Samuel Campbell was convicted and sent to prison on May 1, Sanchez said. Campbell was arrested in April 2016 and was not arraigned until February, 2017, Sanchez said.
Sanchez said Campbell never told the district he had been arrested, charged and tried. His employment predated fingerprinting laws and the district was not notified of his arrest.
"At no time did any level of law enforcement in Dutchess County contact the Ossining School District to inform us of this serious matter, even though they were aware that Campbell worked in a school," Sanchez said.
Had the district been notified of his arrest, Campbell would've been suspended, Sanchez said. He was fired after the district learned of his conviction, Sanchez said.
"I intend to strongly register the concerns of the Ossining school community with all involved law enforcement parties in Dutchess County for their failure to act," Sanchez said. "The health and safety of our students truly is the first priority of our district, and we will always act swiftly to safeguard their interests. Please know that no one has raised any concerns related to Campbell and district students."
