The New York Campaign for Achievement released its 2013 school and district report cards Wednesday, highlighting student performance, graduation rates and achievement gaps at all 4,700 public schools in New York.
"At NYCAN we are committed to achieving excellence in all of the schools in our state," Executive Director Julie Marlette said. "We are excited about our report card system -- it's transparent, easy-to-use and gives real insight into how each school is performing."
NYCAN used data from the 2010-11 state assessments. You can search for a school district or building's report card on NYCAN's website.
Sleepy Hollow High School earned a “B” grade for student performance and a “C” grade for graduation rates. NYCAN grades show the district had 82 percent of students at proficient level or above in reading and math compared with the statewide average of 79 percent. The district also had an 85 percent graduation rate compared with the statewide average of 77 percent.
Irvington High School earned an “A” grade for student performance and graduation rates. Ninety-eight percent of students were at proficient level or above in reading and math compared with the statewide average. The school's graduation rate is at 98 percent.
The Pocantico Hills Central School's middle school grades had a B+ student performance grade, an “A” grade in subgroup performance and a “B” grade in achievement gap. The 87 percent of students who are at proficient level or above beat the statewide average.
NYCAN also noted 86 percent of low-income, black and Latino students were at or above the proficient level, compared with the statewide average of 42 percent. The difference in achievement between minority groups and the white student population was only 10 percent. Statewide, that average is nearly 30 percent.
