TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Westchester County mansions do not have to be a part of yesteryear. Even better, potential buyers have the opportunity to add their own touches to a palace that should begin construction soon at 20 Carriage Trail in Tarrytown.
The 7-bedroom, 6.5-bath house will feature 9,500 square feet of living space and 2.08 acres. Douglas Elliman agent Ellen Schwartz is offering the property for $4,999,888.
“It’s going to be a very regal house,’’ Schwartz said. “It very much looks like a house that was built during the money barron period. People still appreciate that lifestyle.”
The home at 20 Carriage will be constructed in the Greystone on Hudson enclave, a 21-unit project with homes set on lots from 2-5 acres. Most homes have Hudson River views, and are set amid the Hudson Valley’s most gorgeous scenery.
“It’s unique to find a home of this stature, especially in that part of Westchester County,’’ Schwartz said. “There are some similar properties, but you’d have to go further into New York or Connecticut to find them. This is a 25- or 30-minute drive to New York City. People like that convenience.”
Greystone will be a gated community with a 24-hour concierge service. Schwartz said some interested buyers are considering acquiring three lots and nearly 10 acres of land for one home. While the trend among most new homebuyers is less property and turn-key living, some buyers coming from Manhattan still want big houses and properties. Schwartz said the home has also drawn from prospective international buyers.
“All of the properties have room to put in a pool, tennis court and indoor basketball court,’’ Schwartz said. “One of the things most people have said they want is a pool. They’re still very popular.”
Schwartz said the home could be finished by next spring. That gives buyers time to decide on an assortment of options, including hardware, cabinetry, paint colors and fixtures.
“I think a buyer is going to be surprised by the expanse of the home,’’ Schwartz said. “It’s a majestic mansion. The stone for the house is being mined right there. A lot of people who come to look at it are quite surprised about what exists and what the possibilities are.”
