On Wednesday, May 24, Taranjit “Tony” Randhawa and his family opened the first Burger King in Mount Vernon, highlighted by a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Mayor Richard Thomas, city officials and the business' new, youthful employees.
At the ceremonial event, Randhawa was joined by Thomas, District Manager Derrick Moore, Youth Employment Service Coordinator Debbie Butler and several employees who were hired through various programs at the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau.
Thomas said that in total, eight graduates from the Youth Bureau completed one-on-one Job Readiness Training with Butler before being interviewed by Moore and chosen to work at the new location.
“Each youth met with Mrs. Butler and completed a one-on-one Job Readiness Training, which included but was not limited to soft skilled training in communication, resume writing and proper work etiquette,” he stated. “If you are a business owner looking to hire young people for summer jobs, please contact MayorThomas@cmvny.com for the opportunity to connect with many of our young people.”
