Tarrytown's Pierson Park Project Moves Forward

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Tarrytown residents will soon see new tennis courts, a basketball court and a commuter parking lot at Pierson Park and the Tarrytown Train Station.

Delays in the planned Andre Brook rehabilitation project mean village officials have given crews the go-ahead to begin construction on new tennis courts and a basketball court between the Tarrytown Boat Club and West Main Street.

In addition to building new courts, crews are also constructing a new parking lot on Green Street between the Tarrytown Boat Club and Losee Park that should be open in September.

“It is the intention of the village to open this new parking lot as soon as possible,” the village said.

In a note to commuters, the village says it decided to begin construction on the new recreation facilities so the entire Andre Brook-Pierson Park improvement project is not delayed. The waterfront park remains closed during construction.

The Andre Brook portion of the project includes removing concrete slabs along the brook's shoreline and removing some land near the brook to create a wetland. Village officials said there was a timing issue in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ approval of the work permit.

The new facilities will take out a portion of the commuter parking lot. Tarrytown said drivers can park in the lot on West Main Street, temporary parking on Green Street and in the lot next to the Tarrytown Senior Center.
