TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Poll workers throughout Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow reported an anemic turnout for village elections Tuesday because of the uncontested elections and bad winter weather.

“Usually you get a sprinkle as people go to work, a sprinkle at lunch and a sprinkle after work,” said David Aukland, who was volunteering at the Main Street Firehouse in Tarrytown. “Today it's been quiet and quiet and quiet."

Incumbent candidates in both villages face almost no opposition this year , except for Tarrytown resident Robert Smith.

Tarrytown Mayor Drew Fixell is running with Trustees Doug Zollo, Thomas Butler and Rebecca McGovern on the Tarrytown United and Democratic lines. Smith launched a write-in campaign on Facebook just before Tuesday to run for a trustee spot. But poll workers in Tarrytown reported few write-in votes Tuesday.

Sleepy Hollow Mayor Ken Wray is running with Trustee Evelyn Stupel, Trustee Bruce Campbell and newcomer Glenn Rosenbloom on the Democratic line. Village Justice Andre Valdespino is also up for re-election.

Poll workers at Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow reported slow turnout Tuesday morning in districts that usually see more early voters than the rest of the village. Poll worker Betty Penelton said they had seen a few voters in the morning, but an uncontested race and snow probably kept people away.

Scholomo Phillips and Joan Ward, working at the Tarrytown Village Hall polling station, reported low turnout as well, even for commuters walking to the train station across the street.
