Tarrytown trustees will vote Monday on a West Harrison company's $176,406 bid to improve the Tarrytown Lakes trail system. Tarrytown is using $200,000 in grants and village funds to finance the project.
The plan would include clearing the main trail and a secondary trail. A railroad bridge along the main trail would also be replaced, which Village Administrator Michael Blau said was a major part of the project's costs. The Tarrytown Lakes Committee hopes to eventually connect the EF School to Sleepy Hollow High School and the Old Croton Aqueduct.
Future phases of the project would include improvements to the soccer field, including a picnic pavilion, and fixing other parts of the trailway system, Lakes Committee member Steve Yarabek said in work session Wednesday. Yarabek also hopes to include historical signs on the trails that detail the history of the village and the railroad that once ran through that part of town.
Officials recommended that the trustees accept the second-lowest bid because the lowest bidder did not submit or sign all of the necessary materials, Village Attorney Jeffrey Shumejda said.
The difference in bids was about $8,000.
“We were lucky that [the bids] were so close,” Trustee Thomas Basher said.
