SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Sleepy Hollow is getting a much-needed water storage facility after an agreement was reached with the National Trust for Historic Preservation to host the reservoir on land managed by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

“I am proud to finally announce that with the help of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, we now have a resolution to this critical issue of Sleepy Hollow's water storage future,” Mayor Ken Wray said in a statement.

Sleepy Hollow officials say the new 1.6 million-gallon reservoir will resolve the village's water capacity issues . The current reservoir at Rockefeller State Park Preserve holds about 800,000 gallons, which officials say is not enough for the legally-required 24-hour supply of water.

The village has had issues in the past with water capacity, and officials say the new reservoir tank is needed before the General Motors site can be redeveloped.

Wray said the new reservoir “not only provides the solution for a critical problem we now have but also leads the way to Sleepy Hollow's future growth.”

The new tank will cost $4 million and will be funded by the villlage and a $650,000 contribution from the General Motors redevelopment. Officials say the new tank will be underground, visible only about a foot aboveground, and will not obstruct views at the site.

A public hearing on the reservoir tank will take place at Sleepy Hollow Village Hall at 7 p.m. on July 8.
