Lowey Cites 'Vile' Trump Comments As Some Fellow Dems Eye 25th Amendment

Rep. Nita Lowey (D-Harrison) said President Donald Trump's tweets about Bronxville's Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," were "vile" and "heinous."

Lowey made the comments last week during a meeting of the Appropriations Committee, where she serves as ranking member.

"The president's behavior should be repudiated loudly and clearly," Lowey said.

Trump tweeted last week, "I heard poorly rated Morning Joe speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore). "Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no."

The tweet was condemned by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

Democrats in the House of Representatives also proposed legislation to create an 11-member bipartisan commission to medically examine the president and evaluate his mental and physical facilities, according to NBC News, in response to Trump's behavior.

The bill is a reference to the 25th Amendment, which allows the removal of the president by the consent of the majority of the Cabinet if they believe the president cannot discharge the powers and duties of the office.

A spokeswoman for Lowey did not return multiple requests for comment on whether she supports the bill. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney's office said he does not support the legislation.

The last time the 25th Amendment was invoked was when then-President George W. Bush had a colonoscopy and was under anesthesia. Then-Vice President Dick Cheney was acting president for a little more than two hours.

Trump, who owns the $19 million Seven Springs estate in Bedford, also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor.

The Trump name also adorns Trump Tower At City Center in White Plains, Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, Trump Park Residences in Yorktown and the Donald J. Trump State Park on the Westchester/Putnam border.
